"Fix It" and Windows Live Mail and Windows Firewall and Trojans
For a month now (at least) Windows Live Mail has been behaving erratically. It all happened (I think) when I uninstalled Norton AV and installed Windows Security Essentials. In the 2 minutes between the two, a program called Security Fortress made its way into my system a screwed everything up royally. This particular version installed multiple rootkits that weren't detected by malwarebytes on the first screening. What a major waste of time. I'm tech savy, but not tech guru. It took me awhile to get normal functions going again, but I think I did it and I didn't destroy the registry. However, windows live mail, which I have been using for a few years, just wont work properly. Nor will windows "fix it" program. 1. Windows Live Mail will work only when I turn off windows firewall. I have tried adding rules to inbound connections but to no avail. I'm not particularly competent in this area so I'm not sure why. Any advice on how to get WLM to work with Windows Firewall? 2. Windows "fix it" still doesn't work. And the fact that it doesn't work makes believe that there is still an underlying problem with the computer. I had all sorts of run time errors with the virus and root kit. So far, this is the last one. I get an Error box saying "Troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occurred....blah blah blah runtime error......[Code 80040402]. Thanks for any advice on the above issues. Go the Crows.
